Want to get started on an internship or career in insurance? Here's what you need to do:
1. Start a pre-licensing course.

1(b) Choose 32-hr Accident/Health Agent
or Choose 52-hr Accident/Heath/Life Agent (same price)
This is a preparatory course for your state test, consisting of training slides, text, and quizzes. You must complete all portions of the course and obtain a certificate of completion.
The 52-hour course will allow you to write on Life Insurance policies. Aflac does a good amount Life Insurance, so to maximize your earnings, take the 52-hour course. However, if time is a factor, I can also recommend the 32-hour course for Accident and Health only.
2. Get fingerprinted.
This is to verify your legal eligibility and is helpful to do before you schedule your test. (You may also do it on the same day as your test.)

3. Schedule your test.
You will need to schedule this in advance:

Your most economical bet is to take the test in downtown Los Angeles, but PSI testing centers may be more convenient. The test will cost about $45 if you take it downtown.

Be careful to register for the option that best matches your pre-licensing course:
- Accident and Health Only
- Life, Accident and Health
4. Submit your (passed) test and pre-licensing certificate to the Department of Insurance.

You can expect to receive your license via email within 10-14 days.
5. Complete your appointment papers.
Meet with your Aflac (or other carrier) representative. Bring a copy of your license and your bank routing and account numbers to complete a direct deposit and W-9. An Aflac-specific ethics course is also required within 20 days of signature.
